Electric Vehicle Charging

This week we’re talking about the most practical aspect of Electric Vehicles: electric vehicle charging. EV models are proliferating (now even pickups), tax credits and rebates are available in almost every state, driving an EV is inexpensive (especially with high gas prices) and the driving experience is in many ways superior to gas-fueled cars. Plus, the U.S. government is aggressively supporting the transition to electric vehicles.

It’s not an exaggeration to say that the world has a fever for EVs — and the only prescription is more EV chargers (not more cow bell).

So in addition to home and workplace chargers, electric vehicle charging stations are popping up all over. But they are still not as ubiquitous as gas stations at almost every busy intersection. As a result, every EV owner needs the ability to charge at home, as well as know how to connect to public EV charging stations.

On this week’s Energy Show we’ll run down the various EV charger types (Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3), go through the steps to install an EV charger at your home, and discuss daytime charging at both corporate and public charging stations. Finally, we’ll wrap up with the future of EV charging, including vehicle to grid (V2G) capabilities, as well as integration with home solar/battery systems.
